Comparative Government Through Film Fall 2010: Blog #6: 2nd Marking Period Research Project - Mod...

India has been a place for men, women, and children to be abducted and trafficked for forced labor and prostitution. India has one of the largest trafficking problem men, women, and children are held and are forced to do labor working in brick kilns, rice mills, and embroidery factories. Women and young girls are trafficked in India for mainly purposes of sex and forced marriage especially in those areas where the sex ratio is highly in favor of men. Children are also sometimes forced to work as factory workers, servants, beggars, and other types of hard labor workers. They also have been used as soldiers by some terrorist groups.
India is also known for women and girls from Nepal and Bangladesh used for sexual trafficking .Children from Nepal are sometimes sold to people in India for forced labor in circus shows. Women from India are trafficked to the Middle East and all over for prostitution an pornography. In India most families are very poor and don’t have many sources for money. So in some cases young girls and young boys will have there parents give them up for money so they can survive. While there children are forced to be used as sexual figures or are used to work hard labor. The Indian government has found that around 1.2 million children in India are being used as prostitutes. Which is around the entire population of Dallas. This statement makes it clear that child prostitution in India has become more than just a serious issue its destroying the lives of many young children who did not ask to be born into a world were they would be taken advantage of. These kids should be learning in schools instead of having there innocence taken away from them in order to survive.

In this article Mrs. Sheils writes her story about the situation of medical marijuana in san Francisco. It has been voted that the use of medical marijuana is legal for people who are sick and have a prescription from a doctor. There defiantly seem to be that the DEA does have a problem with that. Richard Meyer of the DEA says, “"Possession, cultivation distribution of marijuana is illegal, period.” In 1996 voters backed proposition 215 which allowed these cannabis clubs to be opened, but due to the federal government these clubs have been shut down. Mark Leno a San Francisco city supervisor disagrees which these decisions and says, "But I am not just going to sit on my hands and have every one of our clubs closed down by an aggressive and intimidating government while there are literally thousand of San Franciscans who can't get access to their medicine." I personally think Mr. Leno is right because the herb marijuana has been scientifically proved to help cure the symptoms of many diseases such as cancer and anorexia. It is completely out of control in how the federal government can be so close minded to close down these shops and clubs when all these people are trying to do is help cure some of the deadliest disease out there. Clifford Braun who has sclerosis for 24 years and has been in a wheelchair for most of that time gets through the day by taking a cocktail of drugs. But he says the one thing that really makes a difference is Marijuana. "Marijuana was recommended to me by my doctor in the hospital when I was first sick," he says. This shows how one of many patients have been positively effected by the herb and now the DEA is trying to take it away from them which I feel is wrong

Jan Brewer a the Governor of Arizona signed a bill on illegal immigration which will aim is to identify, prosecute and deport illegal immigrants. President Obama does not like this bill and he said , “The Arizona law, he added, threatened to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and our communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.” I feel that the president is right we are a nation built on immigrants now people are going to be questioned by police if they look like a immigrant? It is not fair that now people who are just minding there own business are going to be bothered because of the way in which that they look. America is suppose to be free in being able to look and talk and feel how ever you want as long as your not hurting anyone I don’t see what is the problem. The law in Arizona would make it illegal if you were not carrying immigration documents a crime and give the police power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. People feel it is going to be used to harasses and discriminate against Hispanics. This is completely wrong and disgusting how poor innocent people can now bothered and arrested for not having these documents present with them at all times. Cardinal Roger M. Mahony said” the authorities’ ability to demand documents was like Nazism.” He is correct and it is very terrible how we are now having our nation compared to Nazis.

Comparative Government Through Film Fall 2010: Welcome to Comparative Government Through Film... ...

if i was able to vote in the 2010 elections i defiantly would for many reasons. i feel that if you are able to vote and don't use that right that you are not doing your job as a American. When you vote you are doing your part to try to make sure that the people that you feel are most qualified to help govern this country are in office. We are very fortunate to have the right to vote because in many countries people don't have the right to vote and are forced to do what ever there government tells them to do. in America we have the right and the privilege to make sure that the right people are in office doing the right things so that our country will be successful. People that do not vote i feel are just doing this country harm by not trying to better America and not try to protect our freedoms.
